Why a blockout screen and not a blockout blind?
Shutters and blinds control light beautifully, but they can never seal it out. The movable louvres and rolling mechanisms that make them work are exactly what let light leak through. Block out roller blinds have the same weakness: light spills down the sides of the roll, and a blackout roller blind fitted inside a reveal always leaves a gap at the edges.
Magnador blockout screens work differently. A honeycomb fabric panel runs inside a fixed aluminium frame set into the reveal, so when the screen is closed there is no light path around it.
Where blockout blinds get you close, a blockout screen finishes the job and unlike most blinds, it doubles as an insect barrier.
Two screens in one frame
The dual system carries both fabrics in a single frame, each operating independently:
Fly screen (pleated polyester mesh): leave it closed all day for fresh air and natural light without mosquitoes, flies, leaves or grass coming in.
Blockout screen (honeycomb fabric): slide it across at night for darkness, privacy and less solar heat.
You are not choosing between insect screens and light control. You get both, on the same track, without a second product cluttering the opening.

The perfect partner for security shutters
Many Magnador clients already have security shutters. Shutters optimise security and light control, but they cannot deliver full darkness. The movable components that let the shutter open are the same ones that let light in. A Magnador blockout screen closes that last gap, so you keep the security and gain the darkness.
Built for the openings you actually have
Every screen is custom made. Use them on windows, doors, folding and stacking doors, skylights and as room dividers in homes, offices, guest houses and consulting rooms.
Slim Frame – up to 3000mm wide for insect screens (6000mm double) and 2100mm for blockout (4200mm double), with a 35mm minimum reveal.
Retractable and Retractable Linkage – for wider openings and folding doors, with a 45mm minimum reveal.
All configurations reach a maximum height of 3000mm; interlocking panels extend coverage across larger spans.
Frames come in six standard aluminium colours of white, light grey, dark grey, bronze, charcoal and matte jet black, with custom colours on request. Mesh and blockout fabric are black only, which is what makes fly screens so hard to see through from inside. The fabrics are damp and mildew resistant, and the system carries a 3-year guarantee on the aluminium and a 1-year guarantee on interior mesh.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do blockout screens really block all light?
Fitted correctly, the blockout screen prevents light coming through. Note that in the dual version – blockout and insect screen sharing one frame – it is not a 100% blockout.
How are these different from blockout blinds or a blackout roller blind?
A blackout roller blind hangs in front of the opening and lets light past its edges. Magnador blockout screens sit in a frame within the reveal, and can be paired with a fly screen in the same track. Blinds do one job; these do two.
Can anyone see in at night?
No. The pleated and honeycomb materials stop visibility through the screen entirely.
Will the fly screen block my view or restrict airflow?
No on both counts. Being black mesh, your eye picks up the colours behind it first and the mesh blurs out of focus. Airflow is unrestricted.
Can the screens be installed outside?
Insect screens can be used externally, though they need more care and maintenance and carry no exterior mesh guarantee. Blockout screens are for interior use only.
Do they keep a room cooler?
Yes. The blockout screen reduces the solar heat entering the room, which takes load off air conditioning.
Can I leave a blockout screen closed with the window or door open?
On wind-free days, yes but it is not recommended. A draught can create a suction effect that pulls the material out of the frame or track.
How do I clean window screens?
A duster or soft brush keeps fly screens clean. For blockout screens, blow the dust off gently first, then wipe with a damp cloth.
Are they cat-friendly?
They will help keep cats inside up to a point, but they are not completely cat-proof against a determined animal.
